Student Programs

When Operation Smile began in 1982, no one ever imagined it would grow and expand so quickly, capturing the vision of people the world over dedicated to creating change for a better world. Today, thousands of children around the globe are living normal lives. However, it was not the surgeons and nurses alone that have helped tens of thousands of children, it was and is the thoughtful, energetic, and bright individuals like yourself that help these miracles happen.

About Student Programs

Operation Smile has depended upon students around the world, contributing even for just a brief moment, their youthful energy and imagination to making a child smile. More than 900 Operation Smile Student Associations around the globe build awareness, raise funds and educate students about the values of commitment, leadership and volunteerism. Operation Smile takes two volunteer student educators and a student sponsor on every international medical mission. Students learn how they can impact the future when they help children in need.

Realizing that you have the ability to change another human being's life is the first step in joining the Operation Smile Student Program. Within each of us is a given strength and compassion that will never reach its fullest capacity until we commit to make that step. The children and students need you, but this alone is not the reason you should join our mission. Join us, because you as an individual have the capacity to create a miracle for a child--to touch the face of humanity.

Currently, in Vietnam, Hanoi Amsterdam High School for the Gifted is the first Vietnamese school to have a Smile Club. Operation Smile is also proud to receive supports from the international schools. Top I Fundraising International Schools could be named as:

  • UNIS Hanoi
  • British International School (BIS)
  • ABC International School
  • Saigon South International School (SSIS)
  • International School in Ho Chi Minh City (ISHCMC)
  • Singapore International School (SIS)
  • Hanoi International School (HIS)

What are your waiting for? We are looking forward to your school’s Smile club

If your school does not have a club, we encourage you to consider starting a club. In Vietnam, if you need additional information or have questions, do not hesitate to contact Ms. Nguyen Bich Thuan – Program Development Manager via email thuan.nguyen@operationsmile.org or telephone: +84 (4) 3936.5426.

Conferences and workshops

Operation Smile proudly offers a range of conferences and workshops that allow students around the world to explore the organization and the ways in which they can help children regain smiles and hope.

Each year, Operation Smile hosts the International Student Leadership Conference, which Vietnamese student representatives have taken part in for years, at a different university around the world. The annual conference helps students develop and strengthen leadership skills and character, receive training on how to help those in developing countries, as well as learn cultural awareness.

The conference recognizes the diversity among our students and celebrates what each unique student has to offer. We believe students play a vital role, not only in the future of Operation Smile, but also in the future of our country and the world.

High school students, at least 15 years of age, and college students around the world are invited to attend this five-day leadership conference. Here, youth will develop and enhance skills to become a leader among peers. Participants will have the opportunity to hear great speakers share their insights on the topics of leadership, overcoming obstacles and what it means to make a difference.

For 24th Annual International Student Leadership Conference, we are heading to the west coast to experience Student Programs with our friends at Chapman University in Orange County, California.  In Limerick, Ireland in July 2014, we had more 450 participants from 25 different countries attend our conference. We aim to have even more participants and countries involved for the 2015 conference. Students from Vietnam who want to join this conference, free to reach out to us via email at thuan.nguyen@operationsmile.org
