SIKA Limited (Vietnam) Sponsors Five Medical Missions in 2010
SIKA Limited (Vietnam) have pledged to sponsor 5 local Missions throughout 2010 with a sponsorship of US$100,000. The Missions will take place at various venues throughout the country in order to give under-privileged children from all walks of life an equal opportunity of facing the future with a bright smile and the ability to go to school and become an integral part of the community in which they live. The first two Missions took place in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi on during the weeks 8 – 12th March and 29th March – 9th April respectively, and resulted in 74 patients receiving treatment in HCMC, and 43 patients receiving treatment in Hanoi. SIKA Limited (Vietnam) non-medical volunteers were present at both Mission sites and provided invaluable logistical assistance to the medical staff such as providing non-medical supplies, arranging the screening site, preparing medical records, allocating patients and taking them to and from the operating theatres. SIKA also assisted patient transportation in HCMC by sending vehicles to transport patients from the National Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology to My Thien Hospital for surgery. For many of the volunteers this was the first time they had been involved in voluntary work of this nature, and OSV is grateful for their efficient and valuable contributions.
The third Mission is currently taking place in Dak Nong Province where patients are undergoing screening at the time of writing. SIKA Limited (Vietnam) non-medical volunteers have travelled to the Hospital site with the medical team and are engaged in many aspects of the patient screening process. The fourth Mission will run from August 16th – 20th in Ha Tin province, when once again non-medical volunteers from the company will be present. The fifth and final mission will take place during 2010 at a venue to be confirmed, allowing OSV to make the best use of the funds where and when they are most needed.
Operation Smile Vietnam would like to express its sincere appreciation to SIKA Limited (Vietnam) for their wonderful support and generosity to the children of Vietnam who depend on sponsorship which will enable them to undergo corrective facial surgery and take their rightful place in their respective communities.
